No matter where you go; no matter how high you search, the truth is inevitable – Las Vegas is run by a league of older women. At the Las Vegas Art Museum, I took tour of the Las Vegas Diaspora collection with none other than a little old lady. When I think "docent", I think hyper-stylized, late 20s, art aficionado. For example, Charlotte on Sex and the City; not my grandmother. It is fine, but in a city where sexuality is pushed upon you like a ton of bricks, it's disheartening not to see other women like me in areas that I frequent. Museums, art galleries, music concerts, lectures, conferences, upper-management, wherever. We are decidedly absent. Usually, we tend bar or twirl our hair at front desks. That is, when we're not stripping or go-go dancing. But I hardly consider these legitimate careers. I would like to get to the bottom of this. Maybe figure out the demographics of our city and why young women choose the professions they do. But keep this in mind next time you go out – who you do see in positions of cultural leadership and upper-management? Not me.

My experience is that it was same reason i happened to drop out of college and start serving food. Why bust my ass for 4 years, then bust my ass again trying to break into an elite existing social network when i could just walk down the strip and snag an ultra easy $60k annual job at 21. That was good enough to support my lifestyle.
If i were a slightly above average attractive chick its not impossible to push upwards of 6 figures pushing cocktails and bartending. My friend Jenny looks like a porn star and does nothing but bitch about how little money she makes since she started cocktailing at the wynn this summer, but despite all her complaints about being broke this girl thinks its a bad day to make less than $200 in cash tips (and another $100 or so in her paychecks). On track toward 75k in her first year of the job with no education or skills except the virtue of being under 100 lbs.
The easy instant cash provides a compelling argument against striving for culture as long as you are in vegas.
